Six Activities Your Field Service Team Should Be Automating

Source: Mendeley, cc-by-3.0, flickr
Field service is labor intensive almost by definition, but there’s no reason to add to the burden by neglecting to automate procedures that can easily be handles by your service dispatch scheduling software.

Field service optimization is easy to accomplish with the right tools in place. You should try to tackle tedious and time-consuming manual activities and activities that affect revenue or customer satisfaction early on in the field service optimization process. Consider these activities as good candidates for automation.

1. Skills management

It annoys customers and costs you money when you accidentally send a technician who doesn’t have the right skills out on a call. Automating skills management ensures you know which techs are qualified to work on specific products. You can track technical certifications to ensure that they’re current and ensure that techs complete periodic training programs to maintain specific product skills.

2. Technician dispatch

Service dispatch scheduling software excels at sending the right technician out on a job. Juggling skills, problem severity and location is complex to do manually but the algorithms in field service optimization automatically select the best employee to resolve the problem at the least cost.Enterprise mobility applications allow you to contact the techs with the details of their next job during the day, so changing schedules during the day to reflect shifting priorities is a simple matter.

3. Route planning

Field service optimization helps you to maximize the time your team spends actually at customer sites while minimizing travel time. Using location-based services, the software actually selects the best routes and the optimum order for calls. That reduces transportation expenses, improves productivity and increases customer satisfaction. Your team will finally be able to spend more time servicing equipment than they do driving.

4. T&E

Enterprise mobility solutions are great for capturing travel expenses, as well as for recording labor and any parts used during a service call. If technicians have to record these items manually when they return to the office, you may be losing revenue as well as time. Even with the best intentions, people forget about incidental parts or they estimate mileage or time.
Automating the process to use a mobile device results in higher revenue, more accurate costs and reduces the number of disputes over invoices.

5. Invoicing

Field service optimization and enterprise mobility combine to streamline your invoicing process. You will capture more of the costs for a call, and records are usually more accurate if the tech completes call records on site rather than creating them manually later. Customers can review the records before the tech leaves the premises, so there will be no questions or disputes when the invoice arrives. In addition, electronically creating the invoice detail, making the entire process is faster and improving cash flow.

6. Warranty claims

Service dispatch scheduling software also helps improve processes by tracking whether warranty or service contracts cover specific calls and claims or if the calls or items are billable. By ensuring that technicians properly record billable items, the overall service costs are lower and sales are higher.

Field service dispatching software and field service optimization automate some of the most basic activities in a field service operation. The result is not only streamlined process but also increased revenue, lower costs and higher customer service.

Things To Look For In A Great Cleaning Service For Your School

Large public buildings, such as schools, rely on professional cleaning services in order to maintain the building and help with it’s up keep. It is unrealistic to expect one cleaner to do this for the whole school and so in most cases a team is hired from a professional, outsourced company.

Although, not the most important aspect of any school, its cleanliness will ultimately decide whether people want to send their children there and there are obviously many issues related to hygiene and safety when dealing with children. However, it may not be wise to just hire the first cleaning company you come across to take care of your school’s sanitation. Here are a few things it’s a good idea to consider.
Cleaning School

CRB Checks

As when hiring anyone who could possibly come into contact with the children, it is important that you ensure that they have been CRB checked in advance. Not all companies will do this with their employees and so when choosing a company to clean your school, it is best to ask whether this is the case or not. It will be a much smoother exchange if the company has experience in cleaning schools as this will mean that all of their staff have already had the relevant checks.

Discrete

As with any cleaning company, you would rather see evidence of them being there (in the form of clean toilets and vacuumed hallways) than have to constantly walk around them when travelling around the building. The best cleaning services will be in and out without you even knowing too much about it, whilst leaving everything spick and span behind them.

Flexibility

Obviously you don’t really want the cleaners to be in the school whilst the children are and so any professional cleaning company you hire, like this one in Bristol for example, will need to be able to work the hours that you stipulate. As long as they are flexible enough to carry out their work either before or after the school day, you can ensure they will deliver a great service with minimum disruption to your staff or students.

Highly Recommended

One of the best ways to know whether a certain cleaning services will be appropriate for your school is to see if they come highly recommended or not. You can find this out by asking if they have any references from similar establishments they have worked for in the past, as well as checking their credibility with national industry authorities such as the British Institute of Cleaning Science.

Environmentally Friendly

In recent years, there has been much more emphasis placed on looking after the environment in our day to day lives. Therefore you may want to consider whether the company you are looking to hire holds this moral obligation too. The cleaning chemicals that they use should be as green as possible and, of course, extremely safe to use within an environment that will be filled with hundreds of children on a daily basis. Green cleaning products are being used more and more these days but it’s still best to be sure.

About Author:

Chris Mayhew remembers the cleaners at his school being very discrete and doing a great job. He would recommend Creese Cleaning Contractors to anyone looking for the perfect cleaning company for their Bristol based school.

Some Tips for Preventing ID Theft This Holiday Season - Online Security

Identity theft is on the rise according to statistics published by the FBI, and the holidays can be especially perilous. You are stressed and busy, and thieves take advantage of this to steal your information to finance their own holiday shopping sprees. In addition, technology is ever-advancing, and while new technologies can be helpful to everyone, they are especially helpful to those who wish to steal your personal information. Between shopping online and shopping in local stores, your information can be stolen nearly anywhere. It is important to take the proper precautions to help you avoid identity theft.

Physical Security

The most important steps you can take are those that will protect your own personal security. Don't park in deserted parking lots, and if you must go out at night, park in a well-lit area. Keep your purse or wallet safe; purses with a cross-body strap are best for shopping, while keeping your wallet in a front pocket is better when you are out and about. Don't leave your card out of your wallet or in your hand while you are waiting in line to pay; a thief may be able to see your card numbers this way. Leave it in your wallet until it is needed. Be aware of your surroundings and try to shop during hours when others are out and about.

Online Security

There are many things you can do to protect your information while online. Don't store credit card and other billing information in a retailer's database. Many companies will ask you if you'd like to store your information on their website to make future purchases faster and easier; don't do it. It's easier to type in a credit card number every time you make a purchase, than to fight with a retailer over a purchase made with your card that you didn't make. You should also never provide a retailer with sensitive, unnecessary information that can be used to steal your identity. In a recent survey done by NBCNews, many shoppers had no qualms about providing their mother's maiden name to an online retailer. With that tidbit of information, someone can hack into your existing accounts or open new accounts with your name. Be careful and keep personal information personal.

Mobile Security

More and more people are turning to their smartphone or tablet to take care of holiday shopping. Don't get complacent and allow your information to be stolen via this method of shopping. There are apps you can download that protect your information when you are shopping online from your phone or tablet. You should also vary your passwords for each website that you use to limit the damage an identity thief can do if they gain your logon information for a website.

Other Considerations

Keep an eye on your credit report. There are free apps you can use on your smartphone to check your credit score and your credit report. If something shows up that you are unsure of, don't wait to investigate. Find out what the account is and where it came from. If it's not an account that you opened, start the dispute process. The sooner you tackle issues, the faster you can get them taken care of. And some credit issues can start as a small error on your credit report and snowball into a massive problem that involves collections agencies or court cases. Don't let this happen to you, especially over an account that isn't even yours.

If your information is stolen and used by another person, you should take steps to mitigate the damage immediately. Contact your bank and credit card issuers to get your cards closed and your accounts frozen so they cannot be used. Contact your local driver's license issuing facility to get a new license or identification card. Some credit monitoring companies will also take care of these steps for you as part of your membership. You should also keep a list of account numbers and contact information for the account issuer in a safe or other secure place at home, so you can easily make the necessary calls if your identity is stolen. Don't wait; take the necessary precautions today and enjoy your holidays!

Caravans For Sale - Selling Tips For The Unexperienced Seller

Every caravan owner in the world will eventually want to sell their caravan. This can be for an array of reasons which include wanting to upgrade to a newer or larger model. Many times people want to upgrade because they no longer can get enough use from it which does not warrant holding on to it. However, regardless of your reasons you will want to get the best deal i.e. the highest price. Below we look at a few tips which should help you get the best possible price. The one thing you always need to keep in mind when selling anything is to be honest, this will help to prevent disputes later on.

Dealer versus doing it yourself

Before you can put your caravan on the market you need to decide if you want to sell it on your own or via a dealer. Whichever option you end up with make sure that the caravan is in the best condition. To do this get it inspected by a caravan mechanic. Let them take a look and fix whatever they think is wrong with it. Make sure that it also looks good cosmetically. This will aid you in commanding a higher price.

Clean it thoroughly

Clean the caravan thoroughly both on the outside and inside. The first impression will go a very long way and if the potential buyer is impressed with his or her first look there is a good chance they will buy it.

Carry out required maintenance

Source: Dick Penn, cc-by-3.0, flickr
Before you put your caravan on the market make sure to carry out minor maintenance procedures like fixing the electrics and the plumbing. If there is an issue that you currently know of it needs to be fixed right away. The brakes and tires need to be in good condition, if the tires look worn then get a set of new ones.

Selling privates

If you have decided to sell your caravan privately there are a number of places where you can advertise it. The more advertisements you put up the higher your chances of getting buyers to contact you. When speaking personally to potential buyers either over the phone or in person you should be honest and very helpful. The idea is to answer their questions as best as possible because if the buyer even thinks that you may be hiding something it will arise some suspicion and they may not buy.

Allow them to inspect the caravan

When they are looking at your caravan they should put up the tables and beds etc. in order to be able to gauge the conditions of the vehicle themselves. That said if the vehicle is in good condition then you have nothing to worry about.

Be careful

When dealing with buyers you need to be careful about scams. There are a few people who prey on first time caravan sellers. When advertising your caravans for sale there are a few things you need to avoid. Try to arrange a meeting in your home and ideally have someone with you when you show the buyer around. Always get the names and addresses of the people in order to be able to check exactly how they may be.

Too good to be true

You need to be aware of buyers who surprisingly offer you much more than the asking price. Be very suspicious with such buyers. Also, be wary of people who try to buy your caravan from abroad or say they may give you money prior to even checking out the caravan. In 80% of the cases these are scams.

Take electronic payment

Perhaps the safest way to sell a caravan is to accept electronic payments or via a check because then you’ll have to wait for it to be cleared. Bank transfers and electronic payments are traceable as opposed to cash transactions and will go on record which is good for you.

If you do take cash you should strongly inspect the cash you take prior to allowing the buyer to go off with the caravan. Draw a formal receipt or a good sales agreement template that the buyer and you sign this will provide proof of your exchange.

Creepy Wedding Crashers - How To Keep A Romantic Outdoor Event Pest-Free

Now that you have decided to wed, then you must choose a location. Do you want a wedding in church or outdoors? Some people like outdoor weddings, and most of them prefer the beach or a nice garden with a view. The great thing about having an event in the open is that you'll have more leeway in terms of theme or decoration. However, you're also at the mercy of the elements. Plus, you have to ensure that there are no bugs that will crash your special day.

A Bug-Free Affair

Wedding
Source: couloir, cc-by-3.0, flickr
It is quite difficult to keep bugs away when you're outside because this is actually their turf, so to speak. Still, you can use many ways to ensure that you and your guests won't be tormented by creepy-crawlies on your wedding day. Here are a few reminders.

o Scented candles

Candles have two major uses. For one, these can be used to add more light and drama to a certain area. In addition, these can also help repel bugs. But you can't just use any type of candle. The scented variety is recommended. Citronella candles are the best choices. You can also use candles perfumed with insect-repellent oils, like lavender, peppermint, and thyme.

o Decorative bug repellents

To further ensure that those insects are kept at bay, use decorative items that double as pest repellents too. Make small bags that contain aromatic herbs that bugs hate so much, such as basil, lemon thyme, sage, rosemary and lavender. Place these in corners, under tables, or near pathways. You can also hang them on trees. Another great idea is to use potpourri, artificial flowers or other decorative items that are scented with bug repellent essential oils, such as - citronella, pine, peppermint, lavender, rosemary, and sandalwood, to name a few.

o Bug spray or bug fogger

Most establishments that rent their space for outdoor events often have their place sprayed for pests. Ask about when they're going to do the treatment and schedule your event after this so that there will be fewer bugs in the area. A bug fogger, which is typically used indoors, can also be used together with yard repellents that create a liquid fence that bugs won't be able to cross. This is particularly effective not only against flying insects, but also against crawling bugs.

o Clean surroundings and trimmed grass

There are all sorts of bugs that come out during spring, and one example is the tick. Rove Pest Control experts explain that these bugs usually stay on leaves while waiting for a warm-blooded creature to pass by. If a dog, deer or a person comes in contact with them, they immediately transfer to their new host. Ensure that this doesn't happen by mowing the lawn or trimming grass and shrubs, and getting rid of clutter where these minute creatures can easily hide. Cleanliness keeps away many other bugs too. Remember that your guests wouldn't want to contract a dangerous disease from a tick bite.

o Mosquito net

Use a nice and beautifully styled mosquito net to keep bugs away from your food and, most especially, your cake. Another option is to rent a tent with screens. Have all the food inside so that your guests will be able to eat in peace.

o Bug repellent giveaways

Make sure that your guests are well-protected from pesky critters. Distribute pest repellent lotions during the event. You can also ask your guests to bring their own bug sprays or creams.

Make Your Neighborhood A More Enjoyable Environment

A neighborhood is defined by much more than its physical boundaries. The people who live there, the rhythms of their lives, and the history of those who once lived in the neighborhood all contribute to making a place special. When you learn how an area's public spaces, community assets, and residents work together to create this special place, you understand the concept of placemaking.

Placemaking is both a sophisticated societal model that takes a huge amount of information into account when improving a neighborhood and a brilliantly simple hands-on plan for improving that region. The city government may play a role by posting informative signs about items of historical interest or updating directional signage on streets, but City Hall can't do the most important neighborhood building. For that, residents need to get involved by starting community gardens, beautifying public green spaces, and sharing stories about why their neighborhood is unlike any other.

Adding Value to Homes

A community that cares about its current residence is more welcoming to future ones, so placemaking plays a vital role in increasing property values. Adding safety signage to tell pedestrians about a sidewalk that gets slick in the rain or directional signs to help new families find the local school's bus stops may feel like small changes, but they create a sense of place that transcends individual differences and builds a thriving community.

The implication of designated paths for children or sidewalks will make the neighborhood appear more accessible for outdoor activities and highly visible gathering areas. By creating a safe environment for children to gather at designated school bus stops, drivers passing through the neighborhood will feel more inclined to drive slower and pay closer attention to safety signage marked along the roads therefore decreasing the risk of accidents occurring within the neighborhood.

Community Gardens Really Brighten the Mood of a NeighborhoodPlacemaking at the Ground Level

Whether a city has a few hundred thousand residents or millions, it's made up of neighborhoods that hold just a few dozen families. How those families interact with each other and with the neighborhood help define the sense of place they experience. As the Project for Public Spaces describes it, placemaking is a grass-roots effort, not a city-wide phenomenon. It separates one place from another while bringing the people who share that place together. Community input helps define where parks should go, which streets are best for shopping and how safe people feel when strolling home from a local restaurant at night. Making a city organized and safe from the top down is an incredibly challenging task, but making a neighborhood a better place to live is achievable for any community.

Strong ties to a locale and community are empowering for everyone, but they're especially important for people who might otherwise miss connections with others, suggest researchers with the South Carolina state government. For elderly people and families with young children, finding transportation and sharing public spaces can be a challenge that leaves them feeling isolated from their community. People from all walks of life can contribute meaningfully to placemaking by creating a shared history or building the kinds of public places they want their children to experience as they grow.

Defining a Neighborhood

Define Where You Live with a Sign of Love

Some neighborhoods are well defined because of age, history or some other unique characteristic. The French Quarter in New Orleans, Greenwich Village in New York and the Haight-Ashbury district in San Francisco have such a strong sense of place that they're unmistakable. Their colorful histories, interesting architecture and lively culture have converged to make these places unique. Not every neighborhood can stand out like these icons, but every community can develop its own local personality and pride.

Does a resident artist live around the block from you and have a yard filled with whimsical sculptures? That sculptor could be one of the people who helps give your community its identity by placing carved figures in other places around the neighborhood. Imagine if more homes were adorned with personalized art. Do you take your kids on a nature walk no one outside your area knows about? Customized directional signage pointing the way to sites of local interest could make that hidden treasure a fixture in your community. Who is the oldest resident in your neighborhood? That person could have fascinating photographs and stories of how the area used to look.

Creative placemaking starts with a single act that improves the community and fosters a stronger sense of a place's personality. Be a part of revitalizing your neighborhood and enhancing its character by helping clean a public park, replanting your garden or just getting in touch with neighbors you haven't seen in a while. Every great community starts somewhere. Yours could begin with you.

Pedestrian Safety: Know Your Rules| Traffic Laws for Drivers

Source: Kathy McGraw, cc-by-3.0, flickr
According to statistics compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), being a pedestrian can be dangerous. This is because more than 460 people will be seriously injured in pedestrian accidents in the next 24 hours, and one pedestrian will likely die in the next two hours. This is why it is so important to become aware of pedestrian-related laws. You should also pay attention to some important ways to stay safe while walking in the presence of vehicles.

Traffic Laws for Drivers

Most states have their own laws when it comes to pedestrians and their interactions with drivers. However, there are some rules that seem to be universal. In general, pedestrians have the right of way in most situations, including in both marked and unmarked crosswalks. But as a pedestrian, you are still expected to look out for your own wellbeing and yield to drivers in certain scenarios.

For example, drivers are supposed to yield to anyone who has started crossing at a crosswalk that has a walk signal. If there is no walk signal, drivers should yield to pedestrians who have started crossing at a green light. The same rule applies for pedestrians who are crossing a street that has no traffic lights, walk signals, or marked crosswalk.

Drivers also need to yield to pedestrians who have entered a driveway or alley. In addition, they should not pass a car that has stopped at an intersection, since they might not be able to see someone about to walk across the street. Driving on sidewalks and stopping in crosswalks are also violations drivers should not commit.

Laws for Pedestrians to Follow

At the same time, pedestrians have their own laws they need to adhere to. For instance, they are supposed to yield to drivers when they are crossing a road that does not have an intersection or crosswalk. In addition, when there is no green light or walk signal, pedestrians should yield to drivers before crossing the street. And of course, suddenly entering the street in front of a car is a bad idea, since it might not have enough time to stop.

Walking on the sidewalk is usually the safest option. But if there is no sidewalk, you should walk facing traffic. Also, before you cross any street, you should try to make eye contact with drivers, since this will let you know they see you while indicating to them that you are ready to cross.

Safety Tips for Pedestrians

Adhering to traffic laws is just the start of being safe while walking along the road. If you want to improve your chance of staying safe on the street, take note of these pedestrian safety tips:
  • Look for a marked crosswalk before you cross the street.
  • Wear bright or reflective clothing when possible, or carry a small light that drivers will see at night.
  • Put down your cell phone or other electronic device before you cross the street, since staying aware of your surroundings is important to your safety.
  • Avoid listening to loud music as you walk, since you need to be able to hear any horns, squealing brakes, or other signs of possible danger around you.
  • Never assume that cars will stop for you, especially if you see a driver on the phone or looking otherwise distracted.
  • Don't drink and walk, since you need to be sober to be sufficiently aware of your surroundings on the road.

Lead Crystal Glassware: Is It A Health Risk? Reason to Use Lead Crystal

Source: Dazzler1308, cc-by-3.0, flickr
Crystal glassware is beautiful, but the lead that may be found in some older glassware might lead to concerns regarding the health risks. The art deco style of Rene Lalique glassware is stunning, but worries related to the health risks of using those glasses may make it easier to hesitate before making a purchase. By understanding the risks, it is easier to finalize a decision regarding any crystal glassware for the home.

Reason to Use Lead

Lead crystal glassware is not a new concept. The lead is used instead of calcium deposits in the process of making glass for two main reasons: the ability to cut the glassware easily and the shine that develops after cutting the crystal.

When Rene Lalique, a popular glasswork and jewelry artist, created his pieces of art, it was not uncommon for lead to be part of the process. Antique crystal and other glasswork from the early 1900s may contain lead to improve the appearance of the final work of art.

Safety Impact

Due to cases of lead poisoning, authorities looked into potential causes and places where lead may end up in food, beverages and other items. Testing crystal glassware showed a surprising and worrisome trend. Lead may leak into beverages that are stored in crystal glassware.

When authorities discovered that lead was leaking into beverages, they did further testing to determine how long it would take and potential solutions to reduce the risks. Although testing did show that lead could bleed into a beverage, it was determine that it is safe to use lead crystal glasses and glassware as long as certain precautions are taken.

Reducing the Risk

Antique crystal glassware may contain lead, so it is important to take steps to reduce the risk of lead poisoning by ensuring that the lead does not have time to leak into the glassware.

Clean the glassware thoroughly before placing any item in the glass. Never use an uncleansed or dirty glass. If the glass has been sitting in storage, then clean it well before use.

The way that the lead leaks into beverages is through the glass. It gradually leaks into the drink over the course of several hours. If the glass is not cleaned before use, then it may already have some traces of lead that immediately get into the beverage.

The secondary method of reducing the risk is limiting the amount of time that beverages are in the glass. It takes a few hours before the lead can leak into the beverage. That means it is safe to use a fresh, clean glass to drink a glass of wine without worrying about lead poisoning. On the other hand, if it is a glass flask, then remove the drink after an hour and re-clean the flask. Do not leave beverages in lead crystal glassware for an extended period of time.

The fact that some glassware may contain lead does not mean that it is necessarily dangerous. The key is limiting the amount of time that items are placed in the glass and taking steps to reduce the risk of bleeding when glassware is used on a special occasion.

Distracted Driving: The Common Deadly Danger You Overlook

Most people fear one thing or another, whether its clowns, spiders or even airplanes. But there is one daily activity that is more deadly than all of those fears combined: driving. More often than not this already dangerous part of your day is made worse by the numerous distractions drivers face. Multi-tasking is the game in this day and age, but the last thing anyone should be doing while driving is diverting their attention from the road. Keep reading for eye-opening statistics that will make you think twice before you go to send that text or grab a french fry while behind the wheel.

The Deadly Distraction

Distracted driving is defined as any activity that could divert a person's attention away from the primary task of driving. All distractions endanger driver, passenger, and bystander safety. The most common problem that we face today with distracted driving is text messaging. Text messaging completely takes your attention away from the road. You need to look at your phone, think about something other than what you are doing now (driving), find who you want to text, and so on. By the time you have done all this and look back up at the road, you may find yourself in oncoming traffic or in a ditch on the side of the road. Other popular distractions include talking on your cell phone, eating, and using your navigation system.

It Can Always Wait

Now lets think about this for a second. Are you really in that big of a rush that you cannot wait a few minutes to text someone? Are you that hungry that you cannot wait to get home to open up your fast food bag and indulge in your super sized french fries and big mac? The answer should be no. You should never be too busy to be safe. It always makes sense to wait and be safe.

A study shows that the number of people killed in distraction-related crashes was at 3,328 in 2012. The same study also showed that an estimated 421,000 people were harmed in motor accidents involving a distracted driver. This is no small number here folks. This is a huge problem that needs to be fixed. It is simple to fix too: people just need to understand the dangers of distracted driving and fix their bad habits. Most states have already  implemented laws which prohibit you from using a cell phone while driving. One of the smartest laws to date in my opinion.

Conclusion

So next time you are driving, make sure that you think about what you are doing before you actually DO it. If you find yourself driving and text messaging someone you should immediately put your phone down. As stated above, it is not only dangerous but also against the law. If you are one of the people who finds themselves eating in the car, talking on the phone or just rushing to get stuff done while driving in general, you need to set a better plan for yourself. Leave yourself enough time in the day so that you do not need to mix other activities in with driving. If you follow these simple steps and remember that it always important to wait a few minutes to make that call or text, you should have no distractions on the road and be well on your way to becoming a safer driver!

Teaching Health And Safety To Your Children - Green Cross Code

There are many dangers that face an individual throughout their lives, but a lot can be avoided by using caution and the health and safety education we received whilst growing up. Parents with young children may find it difficult to teach about health and safety and how important it is, but should consistently attempt to educate so that as their children are aware of the risks that surround them.

Although it may seem difficult to teach of dangers without making your child fearful of the world, by frequently discussing health and safety rather than bombarding them with it, you can educate them on how to stay safe in a way that they will remember. Here’s some areas to focus on when teaching health and safety to your children.

People Safety and the Green Cross Code

When out and about, parents will need to teach their children about people safety and the Green Cross Code. Teaching of the correct and best ways to cross the road may need discussion prior to your outing as children can easily get overexcited when out for a walk, so make sure you ask them to stay close to you, and to hold your hand whilst crossing at the appropriate pedestrian crossing points. Whilst out, and crossing the road, make sure you show the safest way to cross, and how to check for oncoming traffic.

You should be consistently educating and reminding them of the importance of people safety, and who is safe to talk to should your child get lost. Teach about how those in uniforms, such as police, are the best people to talk to if lost, and how going into public buildings or a pre-decided safe area, like a library and asking for help from a librarian, will keep them safe until they are reunited with them.

In the Home

Dangers and risks are not just in the outside world, but also are apparent in the home. Our houses contain plenty of accident risks that can easily be prevented through education and making use of protective items. Teaching to stay away from drawers and ovens in the kitchen area will help prevent burns and other incidents, and covering plug sockets can prevent electric shocks.

Although hob covers and other safety devices can stop younger children from coming to harm, as they get older parents should focus their attention on educating about appropriate behaviour around dangerous items so that they can begin to understand how to use them safely.

Teach about Surfaces and Weather

What seems obvious to an adult may not be to a child, so when considering every day safety, a parent will want to educate about ground and surfaces and how the weather will affect them. Educating about soft and hard ground surfaces can be as simple as showing your child where they are allowed to play, and showing them that play surfaces like these are often the safest place to play.

The weather means that you will need to educate your little ones about how this can affect the ground. When the weather drops and roads and surfaces get icy or extremely wet, you will need to teach about how the ground can become slippery and more dangerous than usual and therefore that your child should be wearing appropriate footwear and take caution whilst walking. This can be done by a parent asking children to be cautious or to slow down during these weather conditions.

The Perks Of Shopping Online For Your Wedding Dress

These often offer the latest styles and trends, cost effective options and even the easiest access to exclusive gowns. With this convenience, traditional window shopping is no longer the go to route for finding your perfect wedding dress. In fact, some of the most sought-after garments make their debuts on the internet first.

Planning a wedding can be exhausting and shopping online is one way to avoid the pressure of trying on an array of dresses at a brick-and-mortar department store. This is reason enough to take to your computer first and shortlist your favourite gowns beforehand. By choosing the designer you like, the colours you prefer, and the price range that’s ideal – you can decide on exactly what you’ve always envisioned your perfect dress to be.

Shopping for dresses using the internet is so popular now, that Glamour magazine did a spread on some of the best online wedding gowns.

Whether you’re looking for something flowing and whimsical, a vintage number, edgy chic or just pure figure-hugging elegance – your wish is the internet’s command.

You can even search for gowns that emulate your favourite designer’s creations without having to book in advance or even leave your home. Moreover, you can look like a Vera Wang masterpiece at a fraction of the cost.

A wedding day is a milestone for every person and there should never be a need to compromise on your dream. Every woman has the ideal bridal dress in mind for that perfect day. Back in the day, finding that outfit may have been an impossible task if your idea was somewhat unusual. But in this day and age, that shouldn’t be a problem.

Online shopping has become so revolutionised that you can ask for alterations, adjustments or have an entirely new dress made – depending on who you’re talking to. Of course, you shouldn’t think it’s going to all be easy sailing. There are some crucial things to consider before clicking yes.
  1. Body shape: A dress will never look the same on different people. That Versace-like gown may look stunning in a picture of a 6ft model, but make sure that it’s flattering for your specific figure.
  2. Fabrics: Photos make it difficult to see exactly what the material would look like in real life. Get familiar with various types of fabrics to ensure that you pick one that you love and suits your body.
  3. Customisation: Take complete advantage of being able to control exactly what your ideal dress should look like. You can add straps and sleeves or have it resized and bedazzled, as well as synched or let out at the waist – the sky is the limit.
  4. Height: Make very sure that the length of the gown suites your height. Take into consideration the shoes that you’re going to wear; this will make a big difference. The last thing you need is a dress that you have to hold up all night, or one that falls awkwardly above your ankles.
  5. Explore: It may be an attractive idea to purchase the first beautiful creation you set your eyes on. However, it’s a good idea to make sure that you have seen all of the available options before you make your final choice and purchase.
Keeping all of this in mind, it should be nothing short of fun and exciting while dress hunting through the World Wide Web. Even if you don’t end up buying something from an online store, it will give you to options and styles that you may have not initially considered. This way, you can also get new ideas to design your own perfect creation. Online stores provide you with a smorgasbord of options and are the perfect place to get creative when it comes to tailoring your dream dress.

Mal enjoys the modern version of retail therapy. This of course refers to online shopping, which extends to weddings and everything associated with it. When she's not shopping on the internet she loves reading a good book.
