LG arrived to the UK market fairly swiftly. Many people saw the advertising of the LG logo around sporting grounds and on the TV before they even knew what LG did.
The company has had tremendous success in the television and home consumer electronics arena and have shown themselves to be innovative and a high quality producer of modern technology.
In the smartphone arena LG have not had as much success as they would have hoped for. However, recently they have developed a partnership with Google that has really enhanced their reputation in the smartphone industry. In addition, they have produced a number of terrific phones of their own. Even before the Google Nexus partnership they developed a cracking phone. Recently they have developed the LG G2, launched in September 2013. This phone has been awarded the accolade of number one phone of 2013 in many tech magazines.
It is clear that LG are a serious contender in the industry.
At the lower levels they have always produced good phones. The LG Cookie was released in February 2009. Although it is almost 5 years old it is still relevant today. It has reasonable specifications and is available at an affordable price.
In this article we will take a look at the specifications of the LG Cookie and by the end of this piece you will have a good idea as to whether you think it is the correct option for you.
The LG Cookie is a Budget Phone
The LG Cookie is a budget phone. Therefore, you should not consider it in the same vein as you would the LG G2 or the LG G Flex. It is clearly going to have lower specifications and is going to offer a much different experience. You should keep this in mind as we go through the specifications and the performance features that we describe. Everything needs to be in context, and this phone has to be seen in the context of a price point of around £50 on pay as you go.
So without further ado let us take a look at the specifications of the LG Cookie
Features and Functionality
The phone comes with FM radio which is a real bonus. It also comes with EDGE Internet technology, providing capacity to do very basic browsing and email activities. You are not going to get superfast broadband as you would with 4G connectivity, but, you will get some Internet around the UK. You also get Bluetooth 2.1 in order to push and receive files to other devices. Bluetooth also enables you to connect up with Bluetooth enabled devices and communicate with them.
The Battery Life
The battery life on the LG Cookie is not massively impressive, but it is adequate. The 900 mAh battery provides 14.6 days of standby time. This compares with an average smartphone standby time of 20 days but it is better than any of Apple’s iPhones on this measure. The talk time on the phone is fairly poor at 3.5 hours. The average smartphone talk time is 12 hours. However, you will normally find that the talk time is sufficient to get you through a day of use.
The Hardware on the Device
The LG Cookie comes with just 48 MB of memory capacity free. However, you can expand the memory by up to 8 GB with a microSD card. Inclusion of a microSD card is an essential for this phone considering the built-in storage capacity.
The Display
The display on the LG Cookie is 3 inches. It is not the biggest but in terms of budget end phones it is a reasonable size. It comes with 240×400 pixel resolution, and 155 pixels per inch. It certainly is not a high-quality display, but at the budget end of the market it is very reasonable. It is built with TFT technology.
When it comes to small text and detailed pictures it may leave a little bit to the imagination. There can be graininess and it is not as sharp as the phones we have become accustomed to in the mid and upper ends of the market. However, it still does a good job.
The Camera
The camera on the phone has 3 megapixels. It also has a camcorder providing the opportunity to take 320×240 videos.
As with all cameras at the budget end of the market you need to have the right lighting conditions in order to get the best pictures and videos. You will also have to spend a bit of time and attention in getting the right pictures or you will end up having poorer quality than you would wish. For basic snaps to social media the camera is okay.
The Design and Dimensions
The LG Cookie is an attractive candy bar shape. Some thought obviously went into the design in order to make it a good budget phone and increase sales.
It measures just 106.5x55.4x11.9mm. Where it is a little bit thick compared to many phones on the market these days it is very light at 89 g. Overall, the phone is very dinky and attractive. It also comes in an appealing pink colour that is much loved by the ladies.
Conclusion
The LG Cookie clearly is not the best smartphone on the market. However, it is a budget smartphone that has stood the test of time. It certainly does not have the best specifications in the lower end of the market at the moment, but it does have excellent durability and decent performance. The fact that it is one of the bestselling LG phones ever clearly points to the fact that it is a good phone.
If you are looking for a budget phone for around £50 you could certainly do worse than the LG Cookie. It has proved to be reliable over the years and has reasonable performance on just about every measure. You should not expect high quality specification but you can expect an okay performance.
These days the Internet connectivity on phones is much better than the phones in the past. If you want a 3G enabled phone then you will have to pay a bit more, or get a different budget phone. This LG only comes with EDGE technology, meaning you will not be able to get particularly fast broadband. You will be able to check your email and do very basic Internet activities but it will be slower than you have become accustomed to on your fixed broadband, and on other broadband you might have tried on a mobile basis in the past.
