Unified Communication Technologies Trends| Saas Changing The World

UC TRENDS

UC, or Unified Communications, is no doubt in for a very extensive change that will ultimately affect the productivity of mobilized workers. It also introduces a changing vendor landscape, as well as innovative technologies which will benefit different organizations.

Introduction

Unified Communication technologies are constantly evolving in order to allow new communication methods to be implemented through wide options and endpoints. These days, different vendors rule in the market. Companies such as Toshiba, Cisco, Avaya and Microsoft Lync are playing for the attention of the market. Aside from that, several cloud based service providers also promise to allow Information Technology to revamp its servers, and redesign technology budgets.

On the other hand, WebRTC allows for democratic UC implementation by means of extending certain features such as video and voice and incorporate them to any mobile or desktop web browser. At the same time, UC vendors have integrated wireless and wired methods in order to provide a better option in terms of serving a growing base of mobile workers who are more comfortable in using their smartphones and other mobile devices than using their desktops.

With the introduction of Unified Communications, video is not just used for conferencing. Consumer services like Vine drive and YouTube allow for video collaboration, as well as content sharing in the organization.

 SaaS changing the world

SaaS (Software as a Service) has changed Unified Communications by introducing the potential to alter the way companies use technology and how each and every professional working for an organization should communicate with each other. Most importantly, SaaS will also change the way an organization allocates its spending methods. As presented by Nemertes Enterprise Technology Benchmark (2013-14), more than 90% of companies today use SaaS applications.

Companies who belong to the other 10% turn to the use of SaaS because they are not equipped with the right knowledge and expertise about this technology. At the same time, these companies also need faster deployment. More important to that, this technology allows companies to experience flexibility in terms of spending and using IT resources.

It is very important to understand that Cloud UC is not for everyone. It also depends on the size of the business. The larger the base is, the more possible it is for cloud services to become more expensive compared to on-premises UC. In order to face the challenges, some companies have deployed a combination of on-premise and cloud applications.

 Mobile UC

The purpose of implementing mobile UC is to allow employees to bring their own devices. This is particularly beneficial if their personal, as well as their company issued mobile devices are used with the goal of enhancing employee productivity. As a result, the support provided to employees ispresented across a wide range of different devices as well as mobile operating systems, and at the same time enabling mobile UC applications.

Different employees may demand different capabilities. For an IT team, the support given to mobile employees may require a whole new set of challenges, which includes making sure that real time application performance, even on crowded wireless networks, securing applications, tracking user location for an effective 911 response, as well as data on personally owned devices while managing UC performance of devices which are outside the team’s control.

Video

Video is no longer used just for conferencing. Since it plays a very vital role in collaboration technology, an evolution is currently in place as different companies accept the use of user generated videos, which ultimately bring the capabilities of other consumer services such as the ones offered by YouTube into the organization.

WebRTC

WebRTC allows browsers to act as video and voice endpoints. This is done without the need to use a separate browser plug in or app. This simply means that users can now do click-to-call from a certain mobile app or webpage without the need to literally pick up a phone.
